Outlaws of the Marsh
2025
Xixi Wetlands, Hangzhou, China

In 2024 I was commissioned by Yunzhongye Culture Media to create an original recorded score for their site-specific, immersive theatre spectacle - set in the stunning location of Xixi Wetlands Centre.

The historic Gao’s Mansion was completely refurbished for the production and the movement led piece, featuring a through composed score, was based on Outlaws of The Marsh, one of the pre-eminent classic Chinese novels - also known as
The Water Margin.

I composed, arranged, performed and produced the soundtrack working with:

Max Gittings: Woodwind
Damián Bolotin, Jean-Phillipe De Passos, Daniel Chouinard, Ben Trigg, Marco Pescosolido, Bruno Migliari: Bowed Strings
Ben Hales, Davy Bergier, Han Jun Ryu: Plucked Strings
Ally Rozario, Dorothy Takev: Vocals

The project required an emotive, accessible and epic score with a contemporary sound-world evoking the heroic spirit of historical China supported by Western instrumentation and production values.
